Tom Brady Reflects on His Brutal Netflix Roast: ‘Hopefully We All Learn From the Experience’ (Exclusive)

Tom Brady is reflecting on his experience following last month’s viral Netflix event, The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady.

“You know, I’m appreciative of all the people that worked very hard to make it successful, so it was exactly what it should be, and I hope it’s a reprieve for people,” the future Hall of Famer told ET’s Kevin Frazier. “The hardest part for me was my kids having to hear some tough things and, you know, hopefully we all learn from the experience.”

Former teammates and some of comedy’s biggest names took the dais on May 5 at the Kia Center in Inglewood, California, and roasted the seven-time Super Bowl champion. His failed marriage to Gisele Bündchen and her new romance was a constant target for hours on end.

Brady has previously shared that poking fun at him was fine and all, but he wasn’t a fan of how it affected his children. Brady shares son Benjamin, 14, and daughter Vivian, 11, with Bündchen, as well as son Jack, 16, with his ex, Bridget Moynahan. But, for what it’s worth, Nikki Glaser had said those who participated on the roast collectively decided to keep Brady’s kids out of their set.

As for Bündchen, a source told ET that “Gisele was upset and hurt by some of the jokes about her, her relationship with [boyfriend] Joaquim [Valente], and her marriage to Tom during his roast.” The source added, “Her main concern is always her children and family and she wants to protect them. She found some of the jokes to be distasteful and disrespectful.”

The roast — hosted by Kevin Hart — reportedly drew some 2 million viewers on its debut night and more than 279 million viewing minutes in less than 12 hours to help the special break into the top 10 for the week of April 29-May 5.

When he’s not busy making himself a target for comedians (and writing his speech for the Patriots Hall of Fame induction ceremony at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday), Brady is a busy pitchman — in this case for a company he’s been loyal to for nearly three decades, Hertz.

The 46-year-old NFL legend has a new Hertz campaign, with this year’s effort focusing on the benefits of the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards Loyalty Program, which includes skipping the counter, choosing your car and earning points toward future rentals. Brady and the popular car rental company have been partners for four years.

“I’ve been a customer for 24 years and I love the leadership team involved at Hertz,” Brady shared. “They focus on the customer, what you need to deliver; this fast, seamless experience. So, how do we get to the airport, how do we pass the counter, go right to the lot, pick up the car and then bounce off to the next location, ’cause time is of the essence for all of us.”

It also doesn’t hurt that both Hertz and Brady are about as American as apple pie, and that their commercials are pretty hilarious. Brady already spoofed Tom Cruise’s viral couch moment on the Oprah Winfrey Show for one of his Hertz commercials, so what’s the deal on future commercials?

“We’re not there yet,” Brady said. “We haven’t even begun to script it out yet but there’s a lot of great ones. We have some more in the pipeline that are coming in this campaign. But we got many more campaigns in the future.”
