Kate Winslet Addresses Rumored Feud Between Her and ‘Titanic’ Director James Cameron

Kate Winslet is shutting down rumors.
In a new interview with Variety, the actress, 48, denied the rumored feud between her and Titanic director James Cameron, 69.
“There’s a part of me that feels almost sad that stupid, speculative Titanic stuff at the time overshadowed the actual relationship I have with him,” she tells the outlet. “He knows I will be up for anything. Any challenge, any piece of direction you give me? I’ll try it.”
Cameron also set the record straight.
“There was never a rift between us,” he says. “She had a little postpartum depression when she let go of Rose. She and I have talked about the fact that she goes really, really deep, and her characters leave a lasting, sometimes dramatic impression on her.”
Winslet portrayed passenger Rose DeWitt Bukater, alongside Leonardo DiCaprio as her love interest, Jack Dawson, in Titanic. The 1997 film won 11 Oscars and made Winslet a superstar in her early 20s. But after Winslet made a comment about her director in an interview with the Los Angeles Times in 1997, eight months before Titanic‘s release, the feud rumors began.
“You’d have to pay me a lot of money to work with Jim again,” Winslet said at the time, saying she nearly drowned twice during filming.
The rumors resurfaced when Winslet worked with Cameron again. She played a motion-capture character, Ronal, a free diver of the Metkayina, in his 2022 film Avatar: The Way of Water.
Winslet will be back in the next installment of Avatar.
“I’m in the cutting room now,” Cameron tells Variety, “and I work with her performance every day.”
If there wasn’t enough room for Jack on the door, then there isn’t space in Winslet’s life for false rumors. It’s time to let them go.
