Kate Beckinsale Candidly Details Her 6-Week Hospitalization: ‘Grief Had Burned a Hole in My Oesophagus’

Kate Beckinsale has had enough.

The actress once again clapped back at a naysayer on Instagram while simultaneously sharing more context on her weeks-long hospitalization earlier this year.

What prompted her public commentary? “Go do some squats @katebeckinsale,” a critic commented on one of her recent Instagram posts. “I think ur a** ran away.”

“No, actually, I watched my stepfather die quite shockingly, my mother has stage 4 cancer, and I lost a lot of weight from stress and grief, quite quickly,” Beckinsale fired back, “and then I was in hospital for six weeks because the grief had burned a hole in my oesophagus which made me vomit copious amounts of blood, and I found eating very hard and I just worked very very hard on a movie that was actually quite triggering because it also involved the theme of the death of my father so l’m not really concerned about what you think about my a**.”

Clearly not mincing words, the Click star concluded, “Maybe you should worry about your own f**king a**. I suggest shoving something up it-like a large pineapple or a brick.”

The comments came on a video Beckinsale posted on Monday, in which she stood in front of a mirror putting on a hair net while wearing a pink off-the-shoulder top and matching bottoms that appeared to be underwear. In the footage, she commented on followers who “get themselves really upset” when they think she is not doing age-appropriate things.

“For those of you who are gonna get off on this,” she quipped, “have at it, b**ches.”

Beckinsale’s stepfather, Roy Battersby, died in January at 87 years old. Two months later, the actress revealed she was in the hospital, but did not disclose the reason behind her stay.

“Kate Beckinsale hasn’t been doing or feeling well. She was supposed to go to the Vanity Fair Oscars party and had to cancel,” a source told ET at the time. “She is doing her best to take care of herself, but it’s not a great situation.”

She has since spoken out against the continuous speculation over whether she’s had plastic surgery. “I am accused of having had unrecognisable surgery/using Botox using fillers/being obsessed with looking younger, and it’s really such a tiresome and subtly vicious way to bully a person,” she wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post in May

At the time, the 50-year-old performer shed light on the health-related anxieties she suffered in her younger years and the irony of critics’ newer claims that she’s uncomfortable with aging.

“Life happens -obviously I have aged, everybody ages; I’m not too concerned about aging-because I found my father dead at the age of 5, I spent most of my teenage years and a good deal of my 20s absolutely crippled with severe anxiety and panic attacks that I was going to die of a heart attack too, and went to emergency rooms often, and was almost, at that time of my life, completely immobilised by that anxiety,” she explained. “The fact that one of the major things I am bullied about is an assumption that I can’t handle the idea of getting older is so deeply ironic when my all consuming terror was that I never thought I’d even see the end of my 20s.”
