Kate Middleton Says She’s ‘Not Out of the Woods Yet’ Amid Cancer Treatment

Kate Middleton is getting candid about her cancer treatment. On Friday, the Princess of Wales spoke out for the first time since announcing her cancer diagnosis in March, revealing that she’s “not out of the woods yet” as she undergoes chemotherapy.

Kate posted the rare update alongside a new photo of herself on Instagram.

“I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days,” she acknowledged. “On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.”

“My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months,” Kate continued. “On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home.”

Despite her ongoing treatment, Kate revealed that she plans to make her first public appearance at Trooping the Colour on June 15, a welcome and unexpected surprise.

Kate has long been a staple at the annual event, which kicks off King Charles III‘s birthday celebrations, alongside her husband, Prince William, and their kids, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.

“I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer,” she wrote, “but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet.”

Amid her health journey, Kate noted that she’s “learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty.”

“Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much needed time to heal,” she wrote. “Thank you so much for your continued understanding, and to all of you who have so bravely shared your stories with me.”

Kate’s positive update comes shortly after royal expert Katie Nicholl told ET that the royal was making strides in her cancer treatment.

“She’s tolerating this preventative chemotherapy better. I think she had a hard time in the beginning. These are strong drugs that she’s on, but she’s tolerating it better, and she’s doing better,” Nicholl said. “We’ve had reports from members of the public that she’s been out and about. I’ve heard from from certain people that… she’s out with the children. That’s a really positive sign.”

According to Nicholl, Kate’s break from the spotlight was never intended to be permanent.

“Everything I hear from the palace, from those close to the princess, is that she’s absolutely determined to get back to the job to pick up where she left off and to do the wonderful work that she was doing as Princess of Wales,” she said. “… Her and William are very much driven by what they do, and she’s determined to get back… It is her absolute ambition, determination, and intention to be back to work.”
