Paul Walter Hauser in Talks to Join Bruce Springsteen Biopic ‘Deliver Me From Nowhere’: What We Know

Paul Walter Hauser may be adding another real-life role to his resume.
The Richard Jewell and I, Tonya star is in talks to join the cast of the upcoming Bruce Springsteen biopic, Deliver Me From Nowhere, ET can confirm. Deadline, which broke the news of Hauser’s negotiations, reported citing sources that the actor would play guitar tech Mike Batlans, a real member of Springsteen’s crew who is credited as the recording engineer for the Nebraska album.
The movie is set to follow Springsteen as he crafts that 1982 album with the E Street Band. The film will be an adaptation of Warren Zanes’ 2023 book, Deliver Me From Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska. The album was Springsteen’s sixth studio album and was released in 1982 to critical acclaim.
But who will portray the New Jersey rocker? ET previously confirmed that Jeremy Allen White is in talks to play the legendary singer-songwriter. Deadline was first to report the news of White’s possible casting.
The film is being helmed by Crazy Heart director Scott Cooper and being produced by former Netflix chairman Scott Stuber. The arthouse, Oscar-producing film company A24 is in talks for the movie. Springsteen and his manager, Jon Landau, are also “actively involved” in the project, according to Deadline.
While Springsteen has participated in his share of concert films, this is the first biopic about his life. He previously won an Oscar in 1994 for penning the song “Streets of Philadelphia” for the film Philadelphia, starring Tom Hanks. He was also nominated in 1996 for his song, “Dead Man Walking,” in the film of the same name.
As for White, he’s had a breakout few years thanks to his role as Carmen “Carey” Berzatto on The Bear. The actor, who got his start playing Lip Gallagher on the Showtime series Shameless, recently won an Emmy for his work as the Chicago-based chef.
