Despite falling to world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the 2024 US Open final on Sunday, Taylor Fritz still broke a 15-year drought of American men in Grand Slam finals. The No. 12-seeded Fritz was the first American man to reach a major singles final since Andy Roddick at 2009 Wimbledon and the first to reach a US Open final since Roddick in 2006.

Just before the tournament began, Japanese sportswear company Asics welcomed Taylor Fritz to its global athlete roster. The 26-year-old Californian ditched his regular Nikes and wore the Asics Gel-Resolution 9 tennis shoe during play at this year’s US Open.

Footwork is crucial to Fritz’s playing style and the Asics Gel-Resolution 9 is both fast and flexible for covering the court. According to the brand, these shoes create advanced stability and cushioning for players who like to control the game from the baseline. Featuring Ascis’ “DYNAWALL” technology, they add stability during lateral movements.

For quicker recoveries in between shots, the Asics Gel-Resolution 9 has a full-length outsole and separated heel to help produce a more stable landing. “By chance, I tried the shoes during a photoshoot and then in practice that same afternoon, and I immediately felt more comfortable than I had in years. The comfort, the support, the speed—it’s just on another level,” Fritz said in a press release.

The tennis star and Olympic bronze medalist wore the white and black tennis shoes, but there 20 different colorways to choose from depending on your size.
